THE AUSPICIOUS MONTH
The Glories of Offering a Lamp
Damodar Month (Kārtika) is celebrated in sacred memory of the pastime when Mother Yashoda bound little Krishna around the waist with a cord of love. Dāmodara means "He who was bound with a rope."
The ancient scriptures declare that of all spiritual services, offering a simple ghee lamp in this month brings the greatest mercy and spiritual welfare to the entire household.
"Even if one has no other qualifications, by offering a single ghee lamp to Lord Damodara during Kārtika, all sins of countless births are washed away."
— Padma Purāṇa, Kārtika Mahātmya
